About Me

My photo
Dr Temi Odumosu, MPhil PhD (Cantab)
I am an art historian and creative educator with a passion for bringing to light hidden histories and equipping people with the tools to experience life more openheartedly. I have a special interest in how art participates in identity politics, and how popular images influence and shape public opinion. Drawing on this my doctoral research, at the University of Cambridge, explored how British artists employed African characters and ultimately created influential stereotypes in caricatures and satirical prints from the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. In addition to my research and teaching, I have also worked as an independent curator and as a consultant with UK museums, and policy and heritage organisations, focused on strategy development around equalities and representational issues.

My Favourite Things

“When I write I am trying to express my way of being in the world. This is primarily a process of elimination: once you have removed all the dead language, the second-hand dogma, the truths that are not your own but other people’s, the mottos, the slogans, the out-and-out lies of your nation, the myths of your historical moment - once you have removed all that warps experience into a shape you do not recognise and do not believe in - what you are left with is something approximating the truth of your own conception” - Zadie Smith
